Are Rangers the same football club?

Had a few beers yesterday with a couple of Scottish mates. The subject of whether, or not, Rangers are the same club since the company liquidation in 2012 was discussed. They both say it's the same club. History, honours, the lot. I've not really given it much thought before.
What do the geniuses of WHO think?

I imagine its only an issue for Rangers and Celtic fans
As someone who thinks both clubs are cunts I'd say that given the 'club' was continually in competition I'd regard it as the same club.
If they had been dissolved and came back seasons later like AFC Wimbledon that is a new club.

Well the old Rangers were an irrelevance as far as serious football competitions were concerned. So are the new lot. So I guess a case could be made that they are. But as others have said, does anyone really care?

Rangers were abolished, they cheated and ripped off the British taxpayer. They were rightly punished, let's hope sevco don't go down the same route.

Well every other club that Sevco had played in the last 4 years think it's an issue. The opposition fans at every match that they played all sing "Your not Rangers anymore!"
Why would old Rangers have a vote in whether the new club should be omitted to the Premier division if they were the same club.
Who was it that played at Brechin City whilst the old Rangers still had the license to play (but had no players or ground). They had a special license to play that match.
Why do they have a new company number whilst the old company still exists and is going through liquidation. Celtic still have the original company number from when they were formed 125+ years ago.
Why did Sevco enter the 3rd division of Scottish football having finished 2nd in the top division the year before. There's no rule to demote any club by 3 divisions - only a rule that a new club has to enter the bottom division.
Why did they play in the 1st round of the Scottish cup when all top teams don't start until later rounds?
Of course they are a new club!

I remember in the 60s and 70 the scotch people I knew used to say that "The scottish fitba'er is the finest in the wurrrld."
